  • “My son was just a year old, I was trying to manage business, home-school and a new born, I was exhausted, I was much more overweight and I felt stuck that I couldn’t find the time to actually invest in cooking better, investing in my health, taking care of myself, I was all over the place.

    None of my habits on a daily basis were serving my health, so of course it was difficult to lose weight, even though I really wanted to. I didn’t feel good in my body, I didn’t feel I was energetic enough, I didn’t feel the energy to be with my children, to run with them and do everything I needed to do because my days were filled to the brim with activities and to-dos.

    You were very approachable, the fact…that you were speaking more about the non-diet approach to diet, lifestyle changes, a gentle way of approaching healthy habits and you’re so relatable in the way you speak to people instead of at them and telling them all the things they should be doing. It made me feel safe that we could work together without me being judged on where I was, how I looked or what I wanted to do. My fear was that it wasn’t going to work for me, that I was a hopeless case or something, that maybe it wouldn’t be a match or you were going to give me tips that were impossible to put into practice or they were just going to be like band-aid tips that didn’t really help me change something in a long-term, sustainable way and I was wrong.

    My health has changed dramatically, mostly in my head, also physically…mostly in my head and I am able to prioritise my health and because of that I’m able to set boundaries within my work and at home…I’m able to say, “That’s not going to work for me” or “I don’t have the time”. I…tell myself… I deserve to time off every day, that sleep is important, otherwise I cannot go on for long, which are things I used to sacrifice easily.

    Our work together made me realise how toxic I was being to myself…the realisation made me not be able to continue this way. And all the changes to my food intake, what makes a good meal and what doesn’t and if I’m tired of course I’m going to go for sugar, but I could eat this instead, but little things, before I would think if I’m lacking energy, what can I get as a fix; sweets and candies, chocolate, coffee and more coffee which would lead to more anxiety. Now I drink some water and have a healthy snack and if that’s not working maybe let’s take a nap. I lost 17 kilos…within the time we were working together it was less than that, but I lost the rest after. I’m feeling much more in love with myself.

    My life has changed so much…our work wasn’t really psychological, it was just about changing habits and learning what kind of foods were better for me and learning how to implement movement into my day, but in order for me to apply what you were advising me to do, I had to change something in the background. We talked so much about the basics of sleep and food and drink and relaxing…and because it’s changed so much in my mind, my life is completely different today. I’m able to say no to whatever doesn’t serve me or my future. I’ve learnt also to delay gratification and to think, “It might feel good right now, but I know that’s not going to feel good in an hour or in 10 days, so I need to make a better decision for myself”, not because I’m being strict with myself, but because I love myself and I nourish myself.

  • “Just before my little girl turned one…it was very chaotic, and I just feel like at that point I was falling fast…and was thinking how can I drag myself out of it and…I knew I needed help with nutrition.

    I had a fear of failure complex and thought, “What’s the point, I’ll probably fail anyway” and being on maternity leave I was worried about the cost, can I justify investing that kind of money and is it going to work, is it going to help and that fear of what if it’s too hard and I can’t do it. You put my mind at ease. It’s not about the facts and figures, military style…you could see that I was struggling with the mental health side and not just wanting to lose three dress sizes or be a certain number on the scales. You made me realise that nutrition can help with the things I needed.

    I’ve now got a much better understanding of things I’m eating and how that affects my mental health and my mood as well as the way that I feel physically as well. I think that’s a massive leap…really understanding that if I have less sugary carbs and more healthy fats, my mood is going to be better, I’m not going to be as snappy and I’m going to have more energy and…when you eat more whole foods and cook from scratch, like I’ve won. It was so much more than nutrition for me, it was that mind set as well. Always there in the back of my mind when making food choices. I know why I feel a certain way when I eat certain foods, I know I’m going to have a bit of a crash, I’m always thinking about how will that food make me feel. I’ve definitely made healthier food choices and meal choices…for my children as well, I try to make sure they’re having some protein and healthy fats at breakfast. I don’t stick to it all the time, but I don’t beat myself up if I don’t stick to it …now because I’ve realised that the next meal can be better than that and if I enjoy having crisps or Stilton then I’m not going to feel bad about it.

    It is a big investment, and you feel like you can’t justify it, but self care and self love, investing in yourself is going to have a better effect in terms of the relationships around you. If you’re unsure if you can justify it because you don’t think you have the time or the money, it’s just such a positive way to understand what you’re fuelling your body with. (Catherine was) really supportive throughout it, so it never felt like a chore, it always felt like you were understanding of where people were at with their personal lives as well.”

  • I've seen lots of changes. My weight is going down, but I feel I'm changing shape more. I have a less fixed mind and what I can do. I have more energy and I'm more relaxed. I was worried about having to eat things I didn't like and that I wouldn't enjoy the overall experience. Because of the habits I have, I was worried that I would have to change lots of things and it would be uncomfortable.
